Colleen Little’s Reality
Hello! My name is Colleen Little and I am a Canadian born Australian artist. I earned a Studio Arts Degree at the University of Saskatchewan and an Arts Education Degree at the University of Regina. Immigrating to Australia in 2010, I spent my a decade based in Melbourne working as a teacher and artist. In 2021, my family and I relocated to Brisbane and Little Reality studio was born.
I am a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in acrylic painting and sculpting functional forms using repurposed materials. I create colourful depictions inspired by my lived experience, noticing and ruminating on self, others and place, as a way to hold, untangle or release a memory or thought.
Passionate about creating work that is approachable, familiar and creates connection within the viewer, I use bold vibrant blocked surreal colours to depict a subject that is representative of somewhere between real and imagined; Little Reality. Flawed black lines appear outlining the subject to create an highly imperfect one-dimensional perspective.
My creative practise has been a consistent tool used to help me process life. It has enabled me to relish in the beauty and simplicity of life, unpack and move through the mess of life and most importantly has provided endless opportunities to connect, learn and grow.
